This date started out really badly. Piece of cake to set up the day ahead – one phone call. Now, at one fifty-nine, I’m in the parking lot, phoning for the room number. Voice mail response, followed by the mechanical voice “that subscriber’s mailbox is full.” When I finally connect, more than thirty minutes later, she picks up. “Oh my God, I fell asleep, my phone was off, I’m so sorry, how can I make it up to you, oh no, oh my God.” “Right now? Sure, come back. I’m so sorry.” It’s a little after three before I’m up in her room. Out loud I’m saying, “That happens, it’s okay, no problem,” but I’m thinking “Is this a mistake? Should I have rescheduled?” Well, as they say, the train has left the station. She says, “Make yourself comfortable,” and heads for the lav.
