Scarlett came over early, back when the sky was still that pale gray before the sun actually shows up, and having her there at that hour turned an ordinary morning into something that felt stolen from a different life. I had coffee going when she arrived, and we sat by the window with mugs in hand while the light slowly shifted from gray to gold, neither of us in any hurry to do anything other than enjoy the quiet and each other's company. She looked like she had just rolled out of bed in the best possible way, hair loose, no makeup, and that easy morning energy that makes everything feel unhurried and real.
