I met Sophie at a little cafe near my hotel, and from the first few minutes it felt less like a first meeting and more like catching up with someone I had known for years. We ordered drinks, settled into a corner table, and the conversation just took off on its own, jumping from travel to music to the kind of stupid stories that make you laugh until your stomach hurts. She has this warm, easy way about her, and by the time we finished our second round of coffees neither of us wanted to call it a night, so we walked the few blocks back to my hotel together, her arm looped through mine like it was the most natural thing in the world.
