I’ve never liked the word “provider”. It is too matter of fact. To clinical. Too vague. All reasons why it is such a perfect euphemism for what goes on in this little hobby world of ours, but I still don’t like it. Mostly I think this is because the truth is I can “provide” for myself. A good high speed internet hook-up, a comfortable chair, some hand lotion and I can get all the “providing” I need. On the other hand. When I do decide to take a dip into our little subculture, I want something more. I want someone who is educated and worldly. Someone with accomplished social and conversational skills. An intelligent woman, who can draw from a lifetime of experiences from outside of The Hobby to add dimension and depth to our experience. Wit and personality are very important; more important that model-scary good looks. Don’t get me wrong. That “providing” thing is really important too, but it should be interwoven into the evening the way a fine composer would weave a subtle theme throughout an entire symphony: hinting; teasing, rising and falling; building until the final crescendo, then diminishing unhurriedly into the denouement. I don’t want much, do I? There is in fact a word for all of this. It doesn’t get used very often any more. That word is Courtesan. Roxanne is a consummate courtesan! VIP part start’s here . . .
