Lily’s enthusiasm for God and her unwavering faith emerged in earnest. She spoke about divine purpose with an intensity that made me uncomfortable. I had come for a light-hearted evening, yet she launched into a monologue about her “spiritual journey,” her conviction palpable and overwhelming. While I respected her beliefs, I found myself increasingly repulsed by her fervor, feeling as if I were caught in a whirlwind of dogma I never signed up for. As the evening wore on, I realized that our contrasting views would be our undoing. When we finally parted ways, I felt a mix of relief and regret. Lily had shown me a side of herself that was passionate and vibrant, but her fervent beliefs left me feeling unsettled.
